Hartley Vale is named after Canon John Hartley, whose life extended beyond his duties at St Lambert’s Church, Burneston, to the tennis courts of Wimbledon.
In the late 19th century, Hartley was not only the dedicated incumbent of St Lambert’s but also an outstanding tennis player, winning the Wimbledon men’s singles championships in 1879 and 1880.
His 1879 victory stands out for his exceptional dedication. After securing a spot in the final on Friday, Hartley travelled back to Burneston for Sunday services and to care for a sick parishioner, before returning to London, even getting changed into his tennis attire on the train.
We echo Hartley’s dedication and commitment to the local community through the high quality homes we are building.
Comprising a carefully curated mix of 23 two, three, four and five-bedroom properties, Hartley Vale is a vibrant new neighbourhood that blends seamlessly into the surrounding countryside of the rural village of Burneston, delivering beautiful living spaces and high-quality, future-proof homes to the local community.
