With summer in full swing and the school holidays just around the corner, now is the perfect time for Yorkshire residents to start planning some family-friendly days out for the coming weeks.

Read on to find out!

Best Theme Park.

Thrill-seekers rejoice – one of the UK’s best and most popular theme parks is located just an hour away!

A family favourite for decades, Flamingo Land is full of jaw-dropping rollercoasters for adults and older children, farmyard tractor rides and scenic riverboat safaris for younger kids and its famous zoo, where visitors of all ages will be spellbound by a roster of animals that includes lions, tigers, rhinos and, of course, flamingos.

Set in some of Yorkshire’s famous countryside near the town of Malton – aka the food capital of the north – and within easy reach of several fantastic beaches, Flamingo Land is great as a day trip or as part of a long weekend spent enjoying everything the county’s east coast has to offer.

Best Beach.

While the likes of Whitby and Scarborough are frequently cited as the jewels in Yorkshire’s beachy crown, those looking for somewhere away from the crowds and a little less populated should head for the beautiful Runswick Bay.

A tranquil spot that was voted the Times’ Beach of the Year in 2020, Runswick Bay is home to a sweeping stretch of sandy beach, coastal caves, fossil hunting opportunities and a scenic cliff‑top village. And it’s dog-friendly all year round!

Throw in a good range of nearby pubs, cafes and fish and chip shops and you’ve got the ideal location for beach loving groups of any size or age!

Best Indoor Activity.

When it comes to the weather, British summers are notoriously unpredictable so there’s no harm in having an indoor activity up your sleeve.

Enter the Playhive at Stockeld Park

Perfect for rainy‑day fun with the kids, Stockeld Park has one of Europe’s largest indoor adventure playgrounds, with different zones themed around outer space, the sea, jungles and more, plus a dedicated toddler zone. Every inch of the Playhive is filled with treetop trails, climbing zones, immersive play areas, interactive games and lots more, so kids are guaranteed a good time and a good workout!

Located just half an hour away from Hartley Vale, this is the place to go when the weather’s less forgiving!

Best Wildlife Experience.

It’s hard to look past the excellent Yorkshire Wildlife Park but we’re going to work under the assumption that most people with school-aged children have already been at least once. If that is indeed the case, we can heartily recommend the Thirsk Birds of Prey Centre (TBOPC) for a feathery alternative!

Less than 20 minutes’ drive away from Burneston, TBOPC lets families meet and handle the likes of falcons, hawks and owls, all under expert guidance, making for a memorable wildlife experience that combines education with excitement!

However you choose to spend your summer, our Hartley Vale residents can rest assured that a local adventure is never very far away!
