Humanitarian Day Blog
An annual event dedicated to humanitarian workers and humanitarian causes, World Humanitarian Day is an international celebration of people helping people.
Taking place on Tuesday, August 19th, the theme for World Humanitarian Day 2025 is ‘strengthening global solidarity and empowering local communities’. As a developer of beautiful and sustainable communities across the Yorkshire region, we thought we’d share a few of the ways in which we’ve helped others over the past 12 months.
Meningitis Research Foundation.
Earlier this year, we announced that we’d chosen the Meningitis Research Foundation as our Charity of the Year and would be raising vital funds for this invaluable organisation through a series of fundraising events and initiatives throughout 2025 and 2026.
In order to make a significant difference in the fight against meningitis, we set ourselves an ambitious target of £11,500 and every pound we raise will be used to help fund life-saving research, support and education.
To date, we’ve had employees raising money for the charity by running the London Marathon and plans are also in place for several of our staff to take on the daunting Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge later this year!
Easter.
At Thomas Alexander Homes, we’re dedicated to giving back to the communities in which we build so earlier this year, we stocked up on Easter eggs and other treats and delivered them to some local charities, including the wonderful Martin House Children’s Hospice and all its incredible patients and staff members.
We’re very lucky to work with some wonderful suppliers and partner organisations too, all of whom helped us on our Easter mission.
Macmillan Coffee Morning.
We had a great time taking part in the most recent iteration of cancer charity Macmillan’s annual coffee morning.
Our team members showcased their baking skills with delicious home-baked treats to sell, raising money for this fantastic charity as a result.
Sustainability.
Our dedication to helping others extends beyond the locations in which we build. As an environmentally-responsible organisation, every home we build includes a range of sustainable features designed to reduce our carbon footprint and benefit the whole planet.
With environmentally-friendly air source heat pumps providing renewable energy, EV charging points that reduce the use of harmful fossil fuels, extra-thick insulation to minimise heat loss and energy use and lots more besides, every Thomas Alexander home comes with a wide range of innovative features that make them sustainable.
We are also progressing towards meeting the sustainability requirements outlined in the Future Homes Standard, the set of regulations proposed by the UK government which aims to ensure that all new homes built from 2025 onwards adhere to strict energy efficiency and environmental standards.
Contributions To Local Amenities.
As part of our land deal for our Swann Gate development in Church Fenton, we contributed more than £600,000 to local services in and around the local area, including:
- more than £430,000 to community infrastructure
- almost £170,000 to education
- more than £3,000 to waste and recycling.
With World Humanitarian Day 2025 almost upon us, we’re recommitting to continue doing everything we can to help others in the local area and beyond.
