Women In Construction Week 2026

Hosted by the National Association of Women in Construction and taking place from 1st – 7th March, Women in Construction Week (WIC), is a global event designed to recognise and celebrate the women who work in the construction industry, raise awareness of the wide range of opportunities the industry can offer women, and champion the growing role of women already working in the sector.

WIC Week also highlights:

  • The diverse career pathways available in construction
  • The achievements and leadership of women in the industry
  • The importance of inclusion, equality and representation
  • The need to inspire the next generation of female talent

Why Does Women in Construction Week Matter?

Women in Construction Week plays an important role in challenging outdated stereotypes.

While construction has traditionally been perceived as a male-dominated sector, the industry today is much different, with women already holding vital roles across all departments, from design and site management to surveying and finance, and beyond.

And with construction today being a dynamic, technology-driven and highly skilled industry, countless other opportunities exist that extend far beyond traditional perceptions of the sector.

The UK construction industry also faces both a skills shortage and a responsibility to better reflect the communities it serves, so encouraging more women into construction is not simply about equality; it’s about strengthening our entire sector.

Put simply, more diverse construction teams mean broader perspectives, greater innovation and stronger problem-solving capabilities, resulting in more collaborative, resilient and forward-thinking organisations.

By raising awareness and celebrating real role models, WIC Week helps ensure that young women and girls can see construction as a viable, rewarding and exciting career path.

How Does Thomas Alexander Homes Support Its Female Employees?

Good question!

We asked our Managing Director, Alex Blease, for his thoughts and this is what he had to say: “At Thomas Alexander Homes, we believe that building exceptional homes starts with building an exceptional team.

“We are proud to have talented women working across our business in site management, technical roles, land and planning, sales and marketing, customer care, finance and operational leadership. Their expertise, dedication and professionalism are instrumental in delivering the high standards our customers expect.”

Alex then highlighted some of the other ways Thomas Alexander Homes supports women in construction, such as:

Creating Equal Opportunities.

We are dedicated to ensuring recruitment, training and progression opportunities are open and accessible to all. We also actively promote a culture where talent and ambition determine success.

Encouraging Career Development.

We support professional growth through training programmes, mentorship and leadership development, helping our female colleagues progress and thrive within the industry.

Promoting Inclusive Site Environments.

Construction sites should be welcoming and professional spaces for everyone, so we maintain safe, respectful and inclusive working environments across all our developments.

Championing Visibility.

By celebrating the achievements of women within our teams, we aim to provide visible role models for the next generation.

Women in Construction Week 2026 serves as both a celebration and a reminder that talent has no gender, and the future of housebuilding depends on attracting the very best people from all backgrounds. Although there is still work to be done to increase female representation across the UK construction industry, we firmly believe that, together, we’re on course to build a stronger, more inclusive future for the sector.
