Thomas Alexander Homes Attends Cadets Open Day

At Thomas Alexander Homes, we love community events, so we were delighted when our CEO, Alex, and our Head of Sales & Marketing, Gemma, were invited to attend a Cadets Open Day recently!

A chance for them to engage with the stars of tomorrow from within the local communities, the event also provided an excellent opportunity to showcase how the construction industry can open doors for both the cadets and those transitioning from military service – something Alex knows all about having previously served in the Royal Navy!

A Day of Activities and Displays

Brimming with excitement, action and opportunities to learn, the Open Day was no ordinary event, with Alex and Gemma participating in various workshops that ranged from first aid training to team-building exercises. They were also invited to watch the cadets demonstrate their skills in drills and survival techniques, showcasing their discipline and determination.

“The displays were not just impressive but incredibly inspiring,” said Alex. “Seeing these young individuals exhibit such dedication and skill was a reminder of the potential that lies within today’s youth.”

Conversations About the Future

Engaging with the cadets was a highlight of the day, with Alex and Gemma speaking with many young attendees about their future plans, aspirations and the challenges they foresee. It was clear the cadets were not only thinking about their immediate goals but also contemplating long-term career paths.

Gemma noted: “Hearing about the ambitions of these cadets is truly exciting. Their resilience and forward-thinking mindset are exactly what we look for in the construction industry.”

The Vital Role of Cadets in Career Preparation

The cadet programs don’t just teach technical skills; they build character, leadership skills and confidence – qualities that are crucial for any career path. Alex and Gemma discussed how the rigorous training and discipline acquired through cadet programs prepare individuals to be well-equipped for the world of work. They also highlighted how these attributes are particularly beneficial in the construction sector.

“The training these cadets receive is second to none,” Alex explained. “They develop a strong work ethic, attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently as part of a team – again, all attributes that are invaluable in construction!”

Construction: A Pathway for Cadets and Veterans

The construction industry presents a wealth of opportunities for those leaving the cadet programs and for adults transitioning from military service. Construction is not just about building structures; it’s about building lives and providing stability. The skills developed in cadet programs – leadership, logistics, problem solving etc – are directly transferable to construction roles.

“There’s a natural synergy between the skills acquired in military service and those required in construction,” pointed out Gemma. “For cadets and veterans looking for a career that values their experience and dedication, construction is a fantastic opportunity.”

Looking Ahead

Thomas Alexander Homes is committed to fostering relationships with community organisations like the cadets. By attending events like these, we believe we can help support young people  on their career journeys.

“Investing in our youth and recognizing their potential is essential for the growth of any industry,” said Alex. “We look forward to continuing our engagement with the cadets and exploring further how we can support their transition into the construction sector.”
